Your Mental Health Matters! Because we are still in crisis mode around the world, mental health awareness month is the perfect time to examine and reevaluate how we are treating our mental state of mind. Here are just a few things to consider:
- Your thought life: has it been mostly negative or positive? You have the power to change your thoughts and to be intentional about what you are allowing to settle into your thinking. Practicing mindfulness, positive self-talk, and affirmations, etc., can be a great way to retrain the brain towards a healthier thought life.
- What is in your control to change? What is not? It is very common to get worked up and bent out of shape about situations that we think “should” be a certain way. The issue is not whether or not you are right or wrong, but if it is in your power to change it. Practicing acceptance of the things you cannot change (and asking God to grant you serenity) can prevent you from becoming stuck or resentful. On the other hand, if you don’t like something and you can change it, go for it!
- What are you doing for fun? What gives you life, or inspires you? Coping skills are essential to our wellbeing! Make sure you are doing activities that allow you to have fun, laughter, relaxation, peace, etc., even if it is for only a moment…consider things that lift your spirit or bring you hope…this hope and faith are what keeps us moving forward.
